Apply for a funeral directors licence

Use this service to apply for or renew a funeral directors licence with the Environmental Health Department.

Who is this licence for

You will need this licence if you conduct funeral directing services in Barbados.

Before you start

You must be at least 18 years old.

If you are applying for a new licence, you must also have been engaged in the business of funeral directing:

  • under the direct supervision of a licensed funeral director for at least 2 years, or
  • for at least 3 years before the regulations came into operation in 1984

You will need:

  • a photo or a scanned copy of your Barbados National Identification card
  • a passport sized photograph
  • new licences: a letter that confirms your funeral directing experience
  • licence renewals: your current funeral directors licence number

When to apply

Your licence expires on December 31st each year. You need to renew it by the first business day in January each year. It is suggested that you submit your application by December 1st.

  2. Get a paper application from the polyclinic
    You must complete it by hand and submit the application to the polyclinic associated with the district where your personal address is located. If you require further information or assistance, contact a polyclinic - information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Cost

There is neither a cost to apply, nor to receive your licence.

What happens after you apply

  • Your application goes to the Environmental Health Service associated with your location. If additional information or documentation is required, you will be contacted by an Environmental Health Officer.

Obtaining your licence:

  • If your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation email and the Environmental Health Office will mail your licence. In addition, you can also request to collect it from your assigned polyclinic.
