Request an Environmental Health Officer

Last updated on August 11th, 2026

Use this service to request an Environmental Health Officer to attend your event. This is required whenever food or drink is served to the public at a mass event.

Who is this for

  • You need to request the attendance of Environmental Health Officers if you are the organiser of a mass event where food or drink will be served.
  • If you are also directly responsible for food or drink being served, this form will cover both requesting an Environmental Health Officer and the application for a temporary restaurant permit. Review the full requirements here.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your name, address, phone number and email address
  • The name and address of the event, and the dates and times it will run
  • The expected number of patrons, and the number of food stalls including bars
  • A list of the food vendors taking part
  • A site or stall plan

If directly responsible for food or drink being served, check list here.

When to apply

Apply at least 14 days before your event, so officers can be scheduled to attend.

Complete the form

There are 2 ways to request an Environmental Health Officer at your event. You can:

  1. Apply online

Allow about 10 - 15 minutes to complete the form.

    Start now

  2. Get a paper application from the polyclinic

You must complete it by hand and submit the application to the polyclinic associated with the area where the event will be held. If you require further information or assistance, contact the polyclinic - information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Cost

There is no fee to request an officer. If there are overtime costs for officers attending, those fees are payable in advance to the Accountant General - the polyclinic will tell you the amount after your request is approved. See how to pay.

What happens after you apply

  • Your application goes to the Environmental Health Department associated with the polyclinic closest to the location of your event.
  • After they review your application, they will contact you to arrange the officers' attendance.
  • The Environmental Health Department will conduct a risk assessment and may require more information including a site plan.
  • The Environmental Health Department will also determine the number and cost of officers to be assigned.
  • If there are overtime costs, they will send an invoice after the request is approved.
  • All monies to be paid to the Consolidated Fund or to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Wellness two days in advance of the event.
  • If you are also operating a temporary restaurant, this request includes your permit application.
  • An officer checks your set-up, and if compliant, issues the permit at the event, not in advance. Permits are non-transferable - Permits are issued for a specific location and event, and may be valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
